A room full of smart people take us down the wrong path….again.

Kennedy once said about the Cuban missile crisis that he couldn’t believe how a room full of smart people could have directed themselves down such a horrible path. It is easy to see how it happens when one watches Obama and this new revelation about Iran’s second nuclear facility inside the mountains. All sorts of accusations are being made about Iran keeping this a secret when in fact Iran revealed the structure on it’s own accord. Iran also claims that the rules state that it doesn’t have to reveal the existence of such a facility until 180 days before it actually moves nuclear material onto the site. (They claim that they signed off on a past agreement that covered that issue and so were no longer accountable to it…but it sounds to me that they should be held accountable to it even though they signed off on it).
One way or another , this sort of confusion enters the mix when things start to go sideways. The question is ……..is Iran developing nuclear weapons? And no one has proof of that. And how does Iran prove it isn’t doing that? No one can prove a negative and yet I have heard several world leaders say they want Iran to prove it is not developing nuclear weapons.(Back to memories of Iraq:)
I believe that we don’t end up in a nightmare situation such as the Cuban missile crises in one big step. It is a series of small steps and they all take us closer to the edge. I believe that this is what is happening now. Our leaders are determined to stop Iran from having full control over it’s own nuclear fuel cycle….even if it is only for civilian purposes. America and Israel want Iran to have it’s fuel supplied by another country such as Russia. They want this even though they have stated publicly that they would never give up that right themselves. Iran will not give up that right and I believe that they shouldn’t either as long as they don’t develop weapons. And that can be verified. It has been said many times that it is very difficult to build a nuclear bomb without it being observed because the facilities required would be so huge.
So we continue this crazy dance down the road to God knows what. One side asking the other to do something that the other side can’t possibly do. I watched the same thing happen in Iraq….the west expected Iraq to prove that it didn’t have something which was impossible for Iraq to do. But the West refused to recognize the importance of this point and so blundered down the wrong path.
I expected better from Obama. What I see is games being played here. They are desperate to get their fingernails under the paint so that they can lift an edge. They need an excuse to bomb the facilities in Iran. They need to confuse the public with the usual smoke screen as they did in Iraq. (Weapons of Mass Destruction). A recent CNN poll asks the public if they think Iran is developing nuclear weapons and 92% said yes. This is how we got into Iraq…the leaders spread fear and then the public follows them wherever they want to go. It is how all wars are fought.
I am sure that Iran will not buckle. The reason I say that is because if they did …they would be rolling over and taking it up the tailpipe. They would be giving up everything. Their complete sovereignty would be thrown out the window. No country will do that. And yet that is exactly what the west is demanding.
More sanctions will only make Iran team up with others who will deal with them. I saw this happen with my own eyes in Iraq. It took them time, but eventually countries such as Russia and China saw the stupidity of turning down massive trade potential. As the world turns it’s back on Iran and cranks up the pressure …then the doors open wide for China to benefit.
Israel will be attacking Iran’s facilities in the short months ahead and we will find ourselves blundering down that nuclear road where Kennedy was a number of years ago. I always thought we would end up down that road eventually but I always thought Obama would have the wisdom to pull us back from the brink. I am not so sure now.
