I am asking people who live along the highway from Victoria to Nanaimo to hang one or more white bed sheets on their front lawn adjacent to the highway…. as a way to celebrate and support world peace. (From the middle of January to the end of April if possible)
The idea is based on the Iraqi woman who left the infamous Ameriyah bomb shelter in Baghdad to go and do her laundry. After she had left the shelter, a missile struck, killing several hundred people including her eight children. It was a terrible act of violence and I have created an art installation at the Nanaimo Art gallery in her honour. My web site gives more details about the show. https://www.derykhouston.com/
My installation features hanging bed sheets:)
There is also another artist, Amy Loewan, who also has an excellent show on in the gallery, featuring peace.
Both exhibitions run from January 13th to April 14th at the Nanaimo Art Gallery, 900 Fifth Street. (University location)
Many people say that they would like to do “something” to make our world a better place. This small act of hanging a bed sheet is one way to show support for peace.
Thank you all for your support.
