In an article by Ruben Naverrette Jr. on CNN dated Sept 4th, he tries to make the point that the world changed on Sept.11th 2001 and that the States had every right to mount a major attack on Afghanistan. It is my belief that the world did not change on that date. It just changed for the people of America. For people around the world, the world changed after the first Gulf war. America was clearly making a move to gain more power and influence at a time when The Soviet Union was weak. Much of the rest of the world suspected that the States was going to receive “Blowback” on a large scale because of it’s huge footprint around the world. The sanctions on Iraq for example were killing several hundred thousand children (2001 UNICEF report) and that changed the world for the people in the middle east and everyone else who followed the story closely. I believe that America has no right to be in Afghanistan. Our children (Soldiers) are supporting a government that is stuffing the ballot boxes in order to get elected and introducing laws that allow a man to starve his wife if she does not give him sex every four days. We are sacrificing our children for America’s need to build and hold massive military bases for strategic reasons such as securing pipeline routes and bases to build launching sites for further military adventures. Nato is only there so that it can show that it is not an obsolete force after all. My Canadian government is there simply because they relish playing with the big boys and billion dollar military toys even if it does mean that every once in a while they have to shake there head and and repeat how sad they are at another young soldier who has died and how the young soldier was really really brave and loved by all.
History will slaughter them. Eventually we will pack up and leave. It is a fact that no one will remember the fallen young soldiers or care about the mothers and fathers who never get another nights sleep because they are mourning their loss. Why are we doing this? Why are we there?
