Canada’s foreign affairs and Harper acting like children in the schoolyard

Once again Canada’s foreign affairs has shown it’s poor judgement by refusing to occupy it’s seat at the UN while the Iranian leader gives his speech. It is true that the statements made by the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad regarding the holocaust are repugnant, but we should be there and use the opportunity to hold him accountable for those statements and shame him in front of the world. Where do our world leaders get the idea that it is best not to have a discussion and engage in talks? It seems ridiculous for Canada to try and claim the high morale ground when it sends twenty two year old young boys and girls to get blown up in Afghanistan to support a government there that has been caught red handed stuffing the election ballot boxes. It is well known that every corner of the Afghanistan government is riddled with corruption. I find it repugnant that Canada would place our young boys and girls in harms way to prop up a government like that. Maybe every time Canada gives a speech at the UN the other countries should not attend. And where would we all be if all the countries played that silly game. We would never solve our problems. Harper and his government are acting like children. I would like to see them get in there and do the hard work instead of grandstanding.
Am I the only one to notice the hypocrisy of Obama talking about change and how all countries have to unite and work together and do things differently from before ….and then he walks out of the assembly after he finishes his speech. They talk about change and the French president makes statements that Iran is developing nuclear weapons when no one …not even the United Sates has provided any proof that Iran has been working on nuclear weapons. Is this the change they talk about. Now Russia has said that they will consider sanctions on Iran when they said before that they wouldn’t do that. But they are going to agree to them now that the US has cancelled it’s missiles in Europe along Russia’s borders. Is this the change we are talking about…… This UN assembly is not even over yet and they are playing their usual games.
Obama says “the UN can be a place where we focus on what drives us apart, or what brings us together,” He also said, America will live its values and “we will lead by example,”…………
I guess he is leading by example when he walked out of the UN after giving his speech. He certainly doesn’t appear to care what brings us together or what drives us apart otherwise he would stay and listen to what other countries are worried about.
I had better hopes for Obama. It appears that he is just a good speech writer.
