Uranium bank straight jacketThere has been talk recently about creating access to a bank for processed Uranium. Countries would be able to get the processed uranium that they need, without fear of having it denied and so the logic goes that they would have no need to be involved in the process of enriching the fuel themselves. The idea is an attractive one, but what is overlooked is that it places these countries in the position of making any new discoveries through research on nuclear fuel for many things such as medical research etc. It would mean that they would still be at the mercy of the producing countries who already have achieved this technology. Any new advances in this area of science would never be attainable for the countries who chose to be under the control of this nuclear bank. I would think that this would be a serious problem for most countries such as Iran even though the idea looks good on the surface. Which country in the world would want to have it’s sovereign rights restricted or limited in this way for it’s peaceful development of nuclear power and medical research etc. It would be placing it’s self in a straight jacket and I don’t see them ever doing that. I imagine that we will be hearing lots more on this and pointing to the bank as an option for Iran…and wondering why they wouldn’t accept it. I think the news story of 2010 will be an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. I thought it would have happened in 2009. I predicted a major strike on the US before 911…. I was wrong on that also…. it happened a year later than I thought it would. |
