It seems very odd to me that Benjamin Netanyahu is participating in these new peace talks. Something smells fishy. It also seems odd that Hamas is not invited. I understand that they have said that they would not participate but they should be invited just the same. We also need to understand why they would say no.
It also seems odd holding peace talks with someone who does not represent the Palestinian people? Hamas won a majority of seats in the Palestinian Parliament in the January 2006 Palestinian parliamentary elections. It seems silly to engage in peace talks without them at the table. Surely it would be best for an independent world body to first establish who can speak for the Palestinian people. Respect should then be shown to that group by recognizing that they are in charge and invite them to the talks. Labelling and calling them names doesn’t open the door to peace.
I don’t like or support what Hamas does. We also need to try and understand why they resort to violence and hate otherwise this cycle will go on forever. I believe that if we were in their shoes we might not be any different. (Even though we think we would never do what they do).
I believe that by recognizing their right to power, we would start to build a better basis for peace.
I have to keep asking what Israeli, Benjamin Netanyahu expects from these talks. Keep in mind that it is all about horse trading. He gives something in return for something else. How is he going to sell the idea to his partners… of giving away land to the Palestinians? What does he get in return? Perhaps the answer can be found by looking at what Israel wants most of all right now. Israel has been wanting to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities for several months now. But the USA has done everything to stop them, including denying them support. The question is ……Has America said that if Israel will agree to give the Palestinian’s a fair deal on land etc., in exchange for full support for a military strike on Iran’s civilian nuclear facilities.
Israel must be getting something for sitting down to these talks and Netanyahu will need something extremely powerful to take back to sell the idea to his government. I believe that he has been given the green light to hit Iran…if he can sell the land deal to his party. It has been widely discussed that Netanyahu will have to go back with such a fantastic deal that no one will be able to say no.
America’s full support to knock out iran’s nuclear threat would be such a deal I think.
I just hope that Obama would not make such an insane deal…..but he is desperate to improve his ratings and his biggest fear is that Israel might go ahead and hit Iran anyway.
It is all about Horse trading.
