He clearly takes his cues from the US government on what to do and say. It is no surprise that he is going to drag Canada further into the sand pit of Afghanistan and waste further billions of dollars of Canadian taxpayer’s money as he extends Canada’s role in Afghanistan. Canada has no money for housing the tens of thousands of Canadian homeless people. They push buggies around the streets of our cities, wearing filthy clothes. Many have mental illnesses. The food bank lineups trail way down the street. Yet Steven Harper’s government finds the money to shovel support to the war industry and secure an oil pipeline route through Afghanistan. I’d like to say that Harper can’t think for himself, but I suppose that is exactly what he is doing. I believe that he is looking after the trade interests of his business cronies, and so he takes his marching orders from the States in order to get better trade deals. (The corrupt government of Karzai in Afghanistan does the same.)
\nOne can be sure that the independently minded former prime minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, would never have dragged us into Afghanistan in the first place. The former prime minister was known for his intelligence.
\nSteven Harper builds his case for support by instilling fear in Canadians. Why does his government insist that Iran stop building a nuclear bomb when there is no evidence whatsoever that the Iranian government is building a bomb. In fact… the international atomic energy committee has repeatedly said there is no evidence that Iran is building a bomb. So why does our Canadian government insist on fear mongering. This kind of policy is much more dangerous to our world. Iran has every right to develop nuclear power for civilian use. It even agreed to do an exchange of it’s processed nuclear material on it’s “own” soil. But the west, including Canada, said that was not good enough. Can harper tell us why not? This solution proposed by Iran recently was a fair proposal. But the west didn’t agree to it because clearly they wanted Iran to hand over it’s materials and have to “wait” for the exchange of the more highly refined material…. at some point in the future. The west wanted to be in a position where it could blackmail Iran for even more concessions. Is this fair bargaining? Does Harper really think that this kind of blackmail will lead to a safer world? Countries that stick to international law are safer countries. Our leaders need to learn that lesson. Most world leaders acknowledge that the world trade towers for example, were attacked because of “blowback” from brutal and inhumane foreign policies. (Several hundred thousand Iraqi children died as a direct result of sanctions for example. The extreme hardships placed on the Palestinians by Israel and the building of settlements against international law is another example).
\n (It doesn’t make it right that America was attacked even though it has supported these obscene policies…. but it certainly makes it predictable).
\nWhen you push people you will get pushed back. There is no mystery to this stuff.
\nFollowing international laws will not solve all the worlds problems, but so far our leaders haven’t tried that option. Instead they illegally invade foreign countries at will, destroying infrastructure and millions of peoples lives. . They inflict brutal sanctions on countries that silently destroy peoples futures, hopes and dreams.
\nAnd then they cry foul when the horrible blowback occurs.
\nIf you don’t believe me…. just wait to see the mess that is going to come out in the middle east from the upcoming Iran conflict.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
The prime minister of Canada, Steven Harper, doesn’t have an original thought in his head.
