\nI am still finding it hard to understand why the NDP and the Green Party turn their backs on the teachings of Gandhi.
\nWhy would they believe that bombing people is the way to solve this crisis in Libya.
\nWhy would they support a group of rebels in Libya that they know nothing about? . Know one knows what they stand for or believe in at this point and they are not just one group. Some are composed of Al Queda.
\nClearly this campaign is not about protecting civilians. If that was the case, why would the coalition not also bomb the armed rebels who are attacking the armed civilians near Tripoli etc. It just doesn’t make any sense. Their argument falls apart.
\nThe US says that it will not arm the rebels. But they have also said that they are considering giving the weapons to someone else who will then give them to the rebels. Somehow that is ok? Am I the only one who sees this stupidity at work? Certainly not.
\nThe US has a long history in many parts of the world where it has armed insurgents and it has always backfired.
\nGandhi understood the tangled mess that this type of armed intervention and war brings. He understood the principles of peace very well because in the end, weapons only give birth to hatred and pain.
\nThat is why I am having such a hard time understanding why the NDP and the Canadian Green Party have not understood these basic principles.
\nThe NDP party of Canada says that it will stick with it’s position because they believe in following the UN mandate.
\nIt doesn’t matter to them that the action on the ground is not following the UN mandate. They will blindly follow what everyone else is doing is what they told me.
\nI expected much clearer policy by the NDP.
\nMr. Layton’s office didn’t know about the widely reported issue of the fact that it was now “civilians” shooting at the rebel forces….. and so as I mentioned above, why wouldn’t the coalition enforce the UN mandate to stop civilian deaths…….because the rebels are shooting and killing civilians.
\nThe NDP just doesn’t have a handle on how to answer these questions and yet they support the mission…..without knowing what that means. Very disappointing.<\/p>\n

The Green Party of Canada seems to be the most open to change their current thinking. So I see them as my best hope at this point. Certainly the people answering the phones seem the most keen on the idea of not simple following the coalition…. if the mandate of the UN is not being followed to the letter by the coalition. I would like to see Elizabeth May draw a line in the sand and speak forcefully about sticking to the principles of peace. Right now …..as of March 2011….I don’t see her doing that. <\/p>\n

Again…..I would like to encourage the young people of Canada to start a new political group that uses the basic principles of Gandhi to help guide it’s philosophy. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
