I have to say that I am completely “stunned” to hear that the NDP and the Green Party support this attack on Libya. I can’t believe my ears. But it is true.
I believe that both parties would have respect for the teachings and principles of Gandhi and they know that he would never have invaded another country and used war as a means to solve problems and yet both have chosen war as a means to solve this problem. As I said…I am stunned by this action.
No one even has a clue who these rebels are or what they believe in politically and yet Canada is right in there doing it’s best to support them by bombing retreating troops and troops that are sitting in their barracks.
I would prefer to see Canada tell the world that it can’t get involved in civil wars because it is too busy creating a new, fair and democratic world police organization.
An organization that allows countries to vote privately without the fear of losing trade deals or loans from more powerful countries.
An organization that has the ability to arrest and prosecute fairly in a world court… any world leader if they break international laws.
Clearly the United Nations is not the fair and democratic world body I talk about.
The UN is run by a few powerful countries that bully weaker countries into submission by withholding trade deals and loans. (It is far from the noble organization often portrayed in Disney cartoons).
We need a new organization and our energies need to be focused on that now instead of trying to solve the worlds problems with guided missiles.
NATO certainly does not represent the world either.
And so I would like Canada to distinguish itself on the world stage by focusing it’s entire energies to this idea. I believe that if saving innocent lives are the motive for Canada’s involvement in this turkey shoot, then “millions” more lives could be saved in the long term by building a better World Police body that could enforce international law. Canada’s policy at this time is simply fanning the flames for civil war spreading across the middle east and God only knows where next.
I hope that the young people of Canada see an opportunity to change things here in Canada. I hope you have the courage to stand up to the old parties and old ways of thinking…just as the young people in the middle east are doing. If a party does not exist that has the values you want to represent Canada…then create a new one.
Change is possible. Go for it.
