Canadian government fans the flames of civil war in Libya

The Canadian government is leading the charge in Libya’s civil war. The Harper government is willing to play the docile puppet for the United States.
We all know that our past prime ministers, Pierre Trudeau or Jean Chrétien would “never” have sent our troops into the midst of a civil war in a foreign and sovereign country with the aim of overthrowing the Libyan government. Harper has said it very clearly that “this is about regime change”.
Can you imagine. Canada is stepping into a position where we are supporting a rebel group who we know virtually nothing about. International leaders are still trying to find out what this group stands for politically. We may very well be supporting a group that will be even more radical than the current government in Libya. No one knows at this point. No one knows which group among the rebels will actually take charge of the Libyan government. The American’s are frantically trying to figure out which group they should deal with and what their goals are. No one knows at this point who they are. And yet we have Canada willing to take charge of an operation that is bombing troops in their barracks as well as bombing “retreating” troops.
I want to make it clear that I have no respect for the current Libyan government. But if Canada believes so strongly in getting involved in attacking another country that kills it’s own people, then why are we not launching an attack on Syria, Jordon, Yemen, or Saudi Arabia ….all of who have shot at people who are rallying for change?
Why didn’t Canada attack the United States when it shot it’s own people in the streets during the Vietnam war era and would do so again if anyone tried to take over the White House. Let’s not kid ourselves….they already have clear instructions to shoot down airliners full of people that head to the White House or the Pentagon.
Should Canadian’s support the Harper government in this next election? It is time to choose a government that does not believe that we should be embroiled in a civil war.
We also need to form a new, fair, and democratic world institution that can decide how best to handle world leaders who break international law. (Such as those who would bomb retreating troops or invade a foreign, sovereign country with the aim of changing the leader which is also not allowed under international law. )
Canada’s Steven Harper clearly doesn’t understand that it is against international law to go in and change leaders. Instead….He is on the world stage bragging about it.
Canadians will be left to pick up the millions of dollars in costs for this war. Some say it could be a billion dollars.
Russia and China are against this war. They respect international law. They have chosen instead to spend their money on schools, education, hospitals, bridges, new roads, new power plants, new technologies in space and communications. And we wonder why they are able to do this as we throw our money and our young men and women into a civil war that is going to spread.
China will flourish while we sit and destroy our future.
The Harper government has placed Canadians in great danger from revenge attacks by joining in on a plan that has no long term, clear plan. This will haunt us all for years to come.
When you vote in the coming election….please pick the leader that is against this kind of war. If you don’t….then you are part of the problem.
