I had a good talk with Denise Savoie tonight and she is a nice person with a kind heart. Clearly they are not happy with the way this war in Libya is going.
But….. what did they expect? This is what happens when one choses war as a way to solve the worlds problems.
I have to wonder what in heavens name they were thinking about when they supported this mission. Either one believes in peace or you don’t.
How did the NDP possibly think that dropping thousand pound bombs, launching hundreds of cruise missiles on another country and destroying much of it’s radar and military infrastructure, causing all sorts of collateral damage….how could they not understand that this would not escalate into a broader war?
How could they possibly have thought that they could have placed limits on this action.
How could they possibly think that this would save lives?
Why in heavens name would the NDP want to be associated with this type of mission?
It was a huge blunder from the beginning and I hope to see them admit that this was a mistake and change their stand. Everyone makes mistakes. I challenge them to set it right now.
Regime change was not the stated goal but it was well talked about and understood that this is what the big players wanted. So no one should be surprised. Harper himself stated that publicly from the start.
Many scholars have pointed out that most countries that experience regime change end up in civil war within five years and if you want to see a bloodbath, then witness a civil war that goes on for years, with all the revenge killings that take place.
Libya was in a civil war even before the bombing campaign started. How do you go into a situation like this and pick sides? Because it is no longer a government killing it’s own people. It is armed civilians killing armed civilians.
Everything was wrong about this ill thought out campaign and yet the NDP ended up on the wrong side of the issue.
The NDP of all people!! I just can’t believe it. How could Jack Layton get this wrong? How could Denise Savoie get it so wrong?
I still get the feeling …even after the phone call…that they still are not sure if they called it wrong.
I can’t be sure from what I heard.
I want the NDP to make some very clear statements that they were suckered into supporting this disastrous Libya plan. That on reflection, they now know that they should never have supported it in any form.
I want to hear them say that it goes against every principle of the NDP because they believe that weapons always make matters worse….as has been proven in the unfolding tragedy in Libya today.
