Several years ago, I bought an LG washing machine. When I bought the machine, the salesperson threw in an extended warranty package which I was happy enough to accept.
The warranty brochure said in “large” print that if they could not fix the machine when it broke down, then they would give me a new machine to replace it.
The machine recently broke down and I phoned the warranty people who told me that a company here in Victoria would fix it. They gave me the name of the company and said that I should hear from the company in a couple of days. I didn’t hear anything from anyone, so I called the company and they said that they do not do the warranties anymore. So I called the Future shop warranty company again and was “eventually” told that they do not have a service man in Victoria. They suggested I get a repairman to fix the machine and then apply to have them pay me back. I pointed out that that was not what the warranty agreement said.
I pointed out that the warranty stated in large print that if they were not able to fix the machine I would get a new washer. They pointed out that that the warranties “FINE” print section said that if they can’t fix the machine then they only have to give me back what I paid for the warranty. I phoned them back shortly after and said that I was going to start a class action law suit in order to get a new machine. They changed their mind and said they would give me a new machine, which I received today.
The above story is only a small part of the complete run around I received over several days. I made dozens of phone calls in order to get this mess resolved. The Future shop that actually sold me the washing machine were actually very good. But they couldn’t do anything for me until the warranty people gave them a special code which would then allow Future shop to authorize me a new machine. It was the warranty division of Future Shop that was the main problem for me. They even went as far as to say on two occasions that the Future shop salesman should not have sold me a warranty at the store. The Future store people were not happy about that and promised to have a good talk with the warranty people. I don;t know where that stands at this time.
I live in the city of Victoria (The Capital city of British Columbia) only a few blocks from the huge box store that sold me the machine and yet the warranty people say that there are no warranty people here to service the machine.
I went through enormous time on the phone being shifted from one place to the other, finally being told that the best they could do for the warranty was to give me back the money that I had paid for the warranty. It was only when I said I was going to start a class action law suit that I got their attention. I have to wonder how many people who have a warranty give up and simply buy a new washing machine or pay for the repairs themselves.
I am not impressed with the warranty from Future shop.
